Computer Systems and IT Engineering is one of the branches of engineering, whose distinguishing characteristic is that the material it manipulates is information. With the support of physical devices (hardware), information is managed by means of systems whose components carry out the basic functions (like those of other engineering specialties) of storage, transport, processing and control.
The presence of information systems in all aspects of our daily lives is increasingly evident, which is why ICAI prepares its computer engineers to deal with complex tasks which require a high level of responsibility in all types of business sectors, resolving diverse and complex problems in terms of scope and responsibility at an abstract level.
The natural work environment of computer engineers is in the development, adaptation and maintenance of large information processing systems as well as in consultancy services specialised in introducing technology in companies. The Computer Engineer will be one of the Information Society's key players in the twenty-first century.
Like ICAI's Industrial Engineering degree, the Computer Engineering degree programme is offered in a highly-demanding academic environment designed to enable students to develop the abilities and skills they will need. In spite of these demands, the academic performance of its students is exceptional, with very low drop out rates and an average duration of 6 years (including the Final Year Project). Throughout their studies the students receive the constant guidance and support of teachers and tutors.
