The Licenciate Degree in Sacred Theology (S.T.L.) is a postgraduate studies programme (Master in Theology). It assumes prior knowledge and expertise gained from previous study programmes (Bachelor Degree in Sacred Theology, Master in Divinity and equivalent). Students will focus their attention on a more specific field of study within the different fields of Catholic theology. It comprises a two-year cyclical structure.
Students are trained to be capable of tackling any subject related to their specialisation course with authority. The course is structured to be an introduction to research, in each particular subject area, in accordance with the theological methodology required for each course. An in-depth study of Catholic doctrine, taken from the Scriptures and tradition, is paid particular attention in order to contribute towards the presentation of the Mystery of Christ with increasing clarity, while attending to the great contemporary cultural movements. Special attention is paid to overlapping, multidisciplinary and current themes, without losing sight of the richness of the Christian Tradition.
The aim is to provide first-class training to all students in some of the great theological disciplines, remaining faithful to Catholic doctrine, with special emphasis on theological and human Presbyterian preparation or on those preparing for the presbytery, as well as other ecclesiastical ministries.
The training involves growth in commitment to evangelisation and the wider apostolic service to God's people through reflection, enlightened by the Christian Revelation, on the problems that affect humankind of today.
